MELO Presents

Image
In the spirit of Juneteenth and Black Music Month, The Musicians' Enduring Legacy Organization nfp (MELO) is thrilled to present legendary drummer Harold Jones with the 2026 MELO Enduring Legacy Award, honoring his extraordinary contributions to American music.

To be held at the iconic Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center on June 16, 2026, the private celebration will bring together a select gathering of industry luminaries, musicians, advocates, and friends for an evening of culinary delights, live musical entertainment, and a formal tribute to one of jazz's most enduring masters.

Few musicians have kept time for more legends than Harold Jones. He rose to prominence as the rhythmic heartbeat of the Count Basie Orchestra, spent decades as Tony Bennett's trusted musical anchor — including helming the drums for Bennett's iconic collaborations with Lady Gaga — and has performed and recorded alongside Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Oscar Peterson, and Benny Goodman. His is a career that didn't just witness the history of American jazz; it helped make it.

"This award is about recognizing the legacies and genius of outstanding unsung heroes who have shaped American music," said MELO CEO Josephine Beavers. "Harold Jones is an icon, and we want him to know how appreciated he is — by us, and by everyone whose life his music has touched."

Emmy Award-winning 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker will host the evening, with live musical performances led by the Ed Vodicka Orchestra, vocalist Josephine Beavers, and special guests to be announced. Adding a unique historical dimension to the night, a traveling exhibition drawn from Jordan Grand Songbook's documentary film "The Musicians' Green Book: An Enduring Legacy" (PBS, 2023), which has toured nationally including a showing at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution, will be on view at the Appel Room during the celebration.

The MELO Enduring Legacy Award in Music and Entertainment event is produced by Jordan Grand Songbook Music & Media, currently also in production on a documentary about Rock & Roll Hall of Fame drummer Earl Palmer.
